I’ve been playing and absolutely loving Guijian 3 (read our review here) but I guess since it’s not a very well known game there’s not a lot of information about it available online when it comes to guides.
So I figured I’d compile some information as I play that can hopefully help others, since everyone really needs to play this game.
In this post we’re going to be taking a look at the fishing mini game. It’s easy enough, you get a basic fishing rod early on in the game and you’ll find locations throughout the world where you can fish.
Different fish are attracted to different bait so select a bait using the Y button (if you’re on a controller) and then cast with the A button. When the fish reaches the vertical line in the middle hit the A button to catch it. Then repeatedly press the button it shows (A, B, X or Y) to real in the fish. When it reaches the right side of the little bar you’ll catch it. If it pulls away and hits the left side of the bar it gets away.
Also pay attention to the thickness of that middle horizonal line representing your line. If it gets thick that means the fish is struggling so stop pressing buttons until it goes back to normal. If you press any buttons during this time the fish will get away.
Pretty basic and easy enough for a fishing mini game right?
Fish, Locations and Baits
Here are all the different types of fish you can catch, what locations you can catch them in and what bait they require.
Note that the Yanling Lake fishing location won’t be available after a certain point in the game. The Yangping Reed Marsh location is also only available for a very brief period right after you exit the Nameless Cave and reach Yangping for the first time. Don’t worry though, there are no missable fish here and anything you could catch in these locations you can catch elsewhere.
The Yanling Hills location is actually not located in Yanling and is instead the spot at the very north part of the map in Yangping. The names of those two places are so similar so it must have just been a translation mistake.

Fingerlings
If you catch a specific fish three times you get fingerlings for that type of fish. You can take these fingerlings back to your fishing pond in the Lotuscape and once you drop them off you’ll be able to have your pact creatures gather an unlimited amount of that type of fish.
The only exception here is the frog, for whatever reason the frog doesn’t drop fingerlings.
Upgrading Your Fishing Rod
In the Lotuscape you can craft two fishing rod upgrades that’ll make the fishing minigame a bit easier. They kind of just get added as you either progress the story or recruit people so check back every so often. They’re in at the top of the list with all the building and furniture objects that you can craft.
The first one “Fishpole, Angler” requires a workshop level of at least one, a carpenter with an ability of at least 45 and simply needs 1x Maple Wood to craft.
The second one “Fishpole, Kua’e” also requires you to have a workshop level of at least one, a carpenter with an ability of at least 45 and needs just 1x Mulberry Wood to craft.
The upgraded rods will just randomly replace the old ones so you don’t need to worry about equipping them or anything.
Weights and Measurements
One more note on the fishing, when you catch the fish you’ll notice it usually says something weird like “You caught a 3 Taels, 2 Catties, 3 Maces Carp.” These are Chinese weight measurements.
A Tael is 50 grams. 1 Tael is also equivalent to 10 Maces. 16 Catties is equivalent to 1 Tael.
Kind of an interesting way of measuring the weights of the fish you catch but I guess it makes things more authentic considering the game’s setting.
As far as I know the weight of the fish you catch doesn’t really affect anything other than it might be slightly harder to reel in a heavier fish.
