I used the MX Master 3 for years and loved it, so I didn’t expect the MX Master 4 to feel like a meaningful leap.
Two months in, I’m convinced: this is the best mouse I’ve ever used.
It’s not cheap, but the blend of comfort, precision, and smart customization makes the price feel justified, especially if you live in creative apps, browsers, spreadsheets, or timelines all day.

Design, Comfort & Build
The MX Master line has always nailed right-hand ergonomics, and the 4 keeps that legacy going with a refined shape and excellent weight distribution.
The thumb rest feels natural, the finishes feel premium (no creaks or cheap gloss), and the whole mouse has that quiet, “I’ll disappear and let you work” vibe.
It’s substantial without being heavy, so long sessions are easy.

Core Hardware: Sensor, Connectivity & Battery
Tracking is rock-solid on every surface I’ve tried (including my bare desk and a leather mat).
Wireless is equally drama-free over Bluetooth, and you can pair up to three devices and flip between them instantly with the underside switch.
Battery life is excellent; I’ve charged it only occasionally, and USB-C fast top-ups mean you can plug in for a short stint and forget about it again.

Scrolling Experience
The main scroll wheel remains a highlight, gliding from tactile steps to a free-spin mode for long pages, perfect for code, editing timelines, or documentation binges.
Two additions really make the MX Master 4 feel new:
Horizontal scroll wheel: this is noticeably better than on my MX Master 3. It feels smoother and more precise, so I actually use it all the time now (spreadsheet columns, timeline scrubs, wide canvases).
Haptic feedback: I expected a gimmick but it’s not. The subtle cues elevate the premium feel and give you just enough “presence” without being buzzy or loud.

Buttons & Gestures (My Real-World Mappings)
Gesture button
I’ll be honest, the placement took a little getting used to.
At first it felt a touch hard to reach, but after a few days it became second nature.
I map it to Task View (just like I did on my MX Master 3) and love the quick window management.
Forward/Back buttons
I’ve reassigned these to Media Next and Media Previous. It’s a small change that makes daily life nicer, quick track changes without hunting for player controls.
Every click feels crisp and reliable.
Nothing mushy, nothing too loud.

The New Actions Ring (Star of the Show)
This is the feature that really sold me.
The Actions Ring sits under your thumb like a radial pad, and each direction can be mapped to a function.
Two things make it exceptional:
Per-app Rings
You can create different rings for different apps.
In your browser, the ring could be tab controls and page tools; in Photoshop, it could be brush sizing and layer actions; in Premiere, timeline nudge, ripple trims, or markers.
Switching apps swaps rings automatically.
Shortcut Power (pro tip)
It’s not obvious at first, but you can assign keyboard shortcuts to each ring direction.
Once I realized that, the ring opened up a ton of workflow options, anything your app can do via hotkey can sit on the ring.
It’s basically a mini command palette under your thumb.
Together, those two details turn the MX Master 4 from “nice mouse” into “personal command center.”

Software & Ecosystem
Logi’s software (Options+) makes setup simple: per-app profiles, ring/gesture mapping, pointer tuning, and backup/sync for your settings.
It’s stable, changes apply instantly, and you can keep it as simple or as nerdy as you want.
Multi-device switching is painless, and firmware updates are quick.

Performance, Price & Verdict
In two months of daily work (and plenty of play), the MX Master 4 has been flawless with no tracking weirdness, no random disconnects, and the battery just keeps going.
It’s more expensive than most mice, yes, but the productivity gains are real.
The improved horizontal wheel, the excellent Actions Ring, the surprisingly nice haptics, and the ergonomics make this feel like a true upgrade over my MX Master 3, not a sidegrade.
If you want a premium, highly customizable mouse that genuinely speeds up your day, the Logitech MX Master 4 is absolutely worth it.
I upgraded for the refinements and stayed for the Actions Ring.
Now that I’m used to it, I can’t imagine going back.
