I have a soft spot for games that make me want to stay up too late, and Moonlight Peaks got me the very first night I played it.

I told myself I’d plant a couple of crops and go to bed. Three real-life hours later I was still out under the moon, chatting with a witch and forgetting my own farm existed.

If you love Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, or Animal Crossing, this one is going to feel like home, just with fangs. It only came out on July 7, 2026, so a lot of us are figuring it out together right now.

Here are the beginner tips I wish someone had handed me before my first night.

Moonlight Peaks tips

What is Moonlight Peaks about?

You play a young vampire who moves into their family’s old, abandoned homestead and starts fixing it up.

The gentle heart of the story is you trying to prove to your disapproving father that a vampire can live a kind, quiet, compassionate life. No villages to terrorize here, just crops to grow and neighbors to befriend.

The town is full of werewolves, witches, mermaids, and other supernatural folks spread across seven families. You farm by moonlight, learn spells, brew potions, and can romance a whole cast of characters, around two dozen of them.

It’s cozy first and spooky second, which is exactly my kind of game.

Your day starts when the sun goes down

Here’s the big twist that you might not expect at first. Your day runs at night.

You wake up at dusk and need to be back in your coffin before sunrise, because a vampire caught in the morning sun is not a happy vampire.

The game gives you a warning too. A rooster crows around 5:00 AM, which is your cue to wrap things up and head home before you pass out at dawn.

My advice: treat that rooster like a real alarm. Losing a whole night because you were greedy about one more task stings.

tips for Moonlight Peaks

Keep an eye on two meters, not one

Most farming sims give you a single energy bar. Moonlight Peaks gives you two, and mixing them up is the fastest way to get stuck.

The first is your energy, which powers the physical stuff like watering, chopping, and mining. You refill it by eating food and by sleeping in your coffin.

The second is your blood pool, which fuels your vampire abilities and magic. This is the one that catches new players off guard.

Regular food will not refill your blood. You need blood-based foods, like blood fruits, or potions made for it.

If either meter hits zero, you faint and lose part of your night, so keep a snack on hand for both.

Start small with your first crops

It is so tempting to till a giant field on night one. Please don’t.

You only have so much energy and water, and a big patch of thirsty plants you can’t keep up with is just sad to look at. Clear a small plot near your house and plant a handful of starter seeds.

One thing to watch is the moon. Some crops only grow during certain moon phases, so glance at the phase before you commit a whole row to something.

You’ll also be raising cute enchanted livestock later, including little Draculambs, which are as adorable as they sound.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to grow one of everything right away. Resist for now, get comfortable with the watering routine, then expand once you’ve upgraded your can.

Easy ways to make money early

Money is slow at the start, and that’s normal. A few simple habits speed it up.

Sell your early crops and pick up whatever you find while foraging, especially in the Whispering Woods north of your farm, which is full of wild herbs, wood, and stone.

Try not to sell your crafting materials like ore and wood, even when you’re broke. You’ll want those for tool upgrades, and buying them back later is a pain.

Foraging spots refresh over time, so make a quick loop through the woods part of your nightly routine.

Completing little tasks and quests for the townsfolk pays out too, and it builds friendship at the same time. Early on, those quests are often a steadier income than your farm is.

Your wand is broken, and that’s okay

Early on you’ll notice your wand doesn’t work, and you can’t cast or buy spells yet. I spent way too long thinking I’d missed a shop.

You didn’t do anything wrong. The wand gets repaired through a story quest, so just keep playing and it’ll come to you.

Once magic opens up, the potions are lovely. The one to prioritize is a sunscreen draught that lets you survive being out at dawn, which takes so much pressure off the clock.

Upgrade your tools before anything fancy

If you only spend money on one thing early, make it your tools.

Upgraded tools use less energy per swing, which means you finish your chores faster and have more of the night left for the fun parts. Head to the blacksmith and start improving your pickaxe and watering can.

It feels boring compared to spells and romance, I know. But it quietly makes every single night easier.

Say hi to everyone (and bring gifts)

The townsfolk are the reason this game stuck with me, so talk to them.

You can chat with each person once per night and give a small number of gifts each week, so spread the love around. Building friendships unlocks quests and can earn you shop discounts.

Gifts land better when you match them to who someone is. As a rule, witches love herbs and werewolves go for raw meat, so pay attention to each character’s background.

And yes, you can date around. With about two dozen romance options, there’s no rush to pick a favorite on your first week.

Don’t rush, and a few little extras

This is the tip I’d stick to the top of the screen if I could. Don’t rush.

A lot of Moonlight Peaks unlocks slowly through the story, so if something feels missing, it’s probably just waiting for the right quest. That’s a feature, not you doing it wrong.

Two small things that helped me plan better. Opening your map shows little sparkles where cutscenes will trigger, so you can save a scene for when you actually have time.

And there’s a fast little Hellkitten form you can unlock to zip around town more quickly, since there’s no normal sprint button. Getting it made my nightly errands so much smoother.

How it feels

What I love about Moonlight Peaks isn’t any single mechanic. It’s the feeling of a quiet farm under a full moon, with warm windows in town and someone always happy to see you.

Your first few nights will feel a little clumsy while you learn the clock and the two meters. That fades fast, and then it’s just you, the moonlight, and a to-do list you’re in no hurry to finish.

So take it slow, keep a blood snack in your pocket, and let yourself get a little lost in it. That’s the whole point, and honestly, it’s a lovely place to lose track of time.
