Smuggler Cache 38 is found on a small ruined island in the southern part of Lake Amari in the Great Basin on Akiva, hidden behind a breakable wall at the top of the ruins, with the cache itself down in a shaft below.

Smuggler Cache 38 Location & Route
Smuggler Cache 38 sits inside the ruins on a small island in Lake Amari, in the southern Great Basin, with the chest itself hidden down a drop behind a breakable wall.
Follow these steps:
- Unlock water travel. Make sure you’ve completed the mechanic/Temmin Wexley questline so your speeder has the Hydrorepulsor upgrade, letting you cross the deep water of the Great Basin.
- Head into The Great Basin. Ride your speeder out onto Lake Amari on Akiva’s western side and navigate toward the southern part of the lake, between Excavation Site 12 and the Hutt Poaching Outpost. Look for a small island with ancient stone ruins on it, that’s your target.
- Land on the island and find the right path. Park your speeder at the island’s western or northern shore and head up into the ruins. If you approach from the north, go around the right side of the brick wall instead of climbing the obvious stairs. Follow the path that wraps around to the right and up through the ruins.
- Climb and grapple to the top camp. Climb onto the next ledge, then look up and left for a grapple point on a branch or ruin edge. Use your grapple to pull yourself up to the higher level. From there, follow the stone steps and path around the ruins. Use the next grapple point you see to climb even higher. Keep going up until you reach the top of the island, where there’s a small camp near a stone wall.
- Break the wall and drop to the cache. At the top camp, you’ll find a cracked stone wall in the ruins. Swap your blaster to the Power setting and blast the wall to break it. Behind the wall is a drop with a grapple point/branch. Use your rope to climb down into the shaft. As soon as you drop to the bottom, you’ll see the Smuggler Cache 38 crate half-buried in the ground in a small chamber. Interact with it to open Smuggler Cache 38 and grab the loot.
If you’re using Jet Kordo’s Holotracker, its beeps and flashes will speed up as you approach the island and go almost constant once you’re at the top ruins and climbing down into the shaft toward the cache.

Smuggler Cache 38 gives you a bundle of materials and valuables, not a unique named item:
- Upgrade materials for your blaster, speeder, or gear
- Valuables/credits you can sell to vendors for extra money
Once you’ve got the Hydrorepulsor, this is a clean, satisfying run: ride out to the ruined island south of Excavation Site 12, climb and grapple your way to the top camp, blast the wall, and rope down to a quick pile of upgrade fodder and cash.
