Berenice is a swaggering Sellsword who turns fights into counter-duels. She hits hard, punishes anything that swings at your squad, and snowballs AP/PP off kills and counters. Think of her as a momentum bruiser: set her up to land reliably, then let her follow-ups and refunds keep the pressure on.
How to Recruit Berenice
Clear the Cornia quest “The Mercenary’s Trial” (outside Fort Colmare). Defeat her unit and she offers her blade, no extra conditions. Promotions later take her from Sellsword → Landsknecht.
Class Overview: Sellsword → Landsknecht (Infantry)
Sellswords are single-target duelists with potent counters. Berenice’s kit revolves around sturdy basics (Heavy Slash), a finisher that refunds AP on kill, and a trademark counter that also regenerates PP when it connects.
Her Leader Effect: Greater Garrison is an overworld perk (faster HP/Stamina recovery while garrisoned), not combat power so build her to delete priority targets and farm triggers.
Stats and Growth
- AP / PP: 1 / 1 – simple rotation; refunds make it feel like more
- HP: B – decent frontline durability
- Physical Attack: S – elite single-target damage
- Physical Defense: B – solid into physical trades
- Magic Attack / Defense: F / D – beware mages
- Accuracy: E – needs help landing big hits
- Evasion: E – don’t rely on dodges
- Crit Rate: D – can spike with gear
- Guard Rate: C – some protection
- Initiative: E – tends to act late without support
- Growth Type: Offensive / Precise – damage focus with some reliability gains
- Leader Effect: Greater Garrison
Skills and Abilities
Heavy Slash (1 AP, Active): Big single-target hit. Use when you don’t need a finisher refund.
Killing Chain (1 AP, Active, Lv10): Single-target strike; refunds +1 AP if it kills. Your main snowball button, target weakened foes.
Following Slash (1 PP, Passive): Counterattacks when an ally is attacked; +1 PP if it hits. This is why accuracy matters, every connect sustains her PP economy.
Summon Warriors (Valor): Summons a temporary mercenary unit (3 max) to help on the field, great for map pressure and cleanup.
Why she works: She converts good setup into more actions and resources. You feed her accurate swings and safe counter windows; she pays you back with kills, counters, and refunds.
Best Equipment and Accessories
Sword: Anything that boosts Accuracy (and/or Evasion) so Following Slash and Heavy/Killing Chain connect. Heavenswing or other accuracy-leaning blades feel great.
Accessory 1 – Mercenary’s Eyepatch: +Crit% to finish with Killing Chain reliably.
Accessory 2 – Warrior’s Medallion / flat Phys ATK: Pushes thresholds for one-shots.
Flex: AP charm (Carnelian Pendant) if you want back-to-back actives more often, or Lapis Pendant if your PP economy is shaky early.
Ideal Unit Placement & Team Synergy
Front or mid row, flanked by units that create safe counter windows and soften targets:
Tanks/Protectors (Hodrick, Josef, Virginia): They attract hits so Following Slash procs safely.
DEF-breakers (Aubin/Housecarl, Knights with debuffs): Lower enemy Phys DEF so Heavy/Killing Chain hit kill thresholds.
Healers/Cleansers (Scarlett/Josef): Keep her topped and purge debuffs; she’s weak to magic focus.
Ranged peel (Rolf/Yunifi): Remove thieves/fliers that pressure her low Accuracy.
Tips and Strategy
Tactic template (general use, in priority):
- Killing Chain → Condition: “Target HP ≤ 50%” (secure the kill → AP refund).
- Heavy Slash → Condition: “Lowest Evasion” (mitigate her Accuracy weakness).
- Following Slash (Passive) → no condition (let it auto-proc on ally-hit).
Play notes
Accuracy first. A whiffed counter is lost PP and pressure; stack Accuracy on weapon/slot 2.
Hunt finishers. Set tactics so she prioritizes low-HP targets, refunds > raw damage.
Protect vs mages. Keep anti-magic cover or rotate her out when facing heavy casters.
Valor timing. Summon Warriors is great for capping points, tying up archers, or finishing runners while your main unit stays engaged.
Final Thoughts
Berenice is a classic “win-more” bruiser: once she starts connecting and cashing refunds, your tempo spikes. Give her accuracy, a sturdy screen, and reliable setup damage and she turns those into counters, kills, and momentum that snowball skirmishes in your favor.
