The Gryphon Knight is Unicorn Overlord’s evasion-focused flying class, a graceful aerial warrior with outstanding evasion, strong attack, and devastating anti-cavalry skills.
Once promoted to Gryphon Master, it gains anti-armor tools that round out its offensive capabilities.
If you want a fast, hard-hitting flier that dodges attacks and destroys cavalry, the Gryphon Knight/Gryphon Master is one of the best classes in the game.
Strengths
Gryphon Knights have exceptional evasion and magick defense, making them surprisingly hard to kill for a class with moderate HP.
Physical melee attacks frequently miss them, and magick damage is reduced by their strong magick defense.
They absolutely devastate cavalry.
Anti-cavalry attacks with high potency let them sweep through Knights, Great Knights, and Dark Knights with ease. On maps with cavalry-heavy enemy formations, a Gryphon Knight can single-handedly dismantle entire squads.
Flight provides incredible overworld mobility and terrain-ignoring movement.
As a leader, the Flight effect applies to the entire unit.
After promotion, Gryphon Masters gain anti-armor skills that let them handle Hoplites and Fighters in addition to cavalry.
They also get self-healing after battles, giving them excellent sustain.
The Gryphon Master’s row initiative boost helps the entire unit act faster in combat.
Weaknesses
Anti-flying attacks are devastating. Hunters, Arbalists, and Swordfighters (with truestrike) can kill Gryphon Knights quickly.
Despite high evasion, they have low physickal defense, so attacks that do connect hit hard.
They’re a female-only class and their effectiveness drops significantly against infantry-heavy compositions where their anti-cavalry specialization doesn’t apply.
Key Skills and How to Use Them
Aerial Slash is a powerful anti-cavalry attack. Use it against any mounted enemy.
Swoop targets back-row enemies directly, bypassing frontline defenders.
Armor Break (Gryphon Master only) provides anti-armor capability, expanding the class’s target pool.
Evasive Maneuver is a passive that dodges attacks, stacking with the class’s natural evasion.
Post-Battle Heal (Gryphon Master) restores HP after combat, giving excellent sustain between fights.
Promotion to Gryphon Master
Highly recommended. Armor Break adds a whole new dimension of effectiveness, and post-battle healing means the class sustains itself without needing dedicated healer support. High-priority promotion.
Best Team Compositions and Tactics
Gryphon Knight + Fighter/Vanguard protects the flier from ranged attacks with Arrow Cover while the Gryphon handles cavalry.
Gryphon Knight + Shaman debuffs enemies before the Gryphon strikes, maximizing damage.
Gryphon Knight + Cleric provides healing support for a flying-speed unit that can cross the map quickly.
Position Gryphon Knights in the front row against cavalry-heavy compositions, or target them at isolated cavalry units.
Characters Who Use This Class
Fran is the first Gryphon Knight, recruited during mid-game missions. She’s an excellent anti-cavalry specialist.
Celeste joins later as a Gryphon Master, already promoted and ready to fight.
Generic Gryphon Knight mercenaries are available at forts (they’re one of the few non-unique flying units you can hire).
Final Thoughts
The Gryphon Knight/Gryphon Master is one of the strongest and most versatile classes in Unicorn Overlord.
Anti-cavalry devastation, flight mobility, high evasion, magick defense, and anti-armor after promotion make this class effective against almost every ground-based enemy.
Just keep them away from Hunters and you’ll have an aerial powerhouse that dominates the battlefield.
