The Lord is Alain’s unique class in Unicorn Overlord, a balanced swordsman with solid offense, defense, self-healing, and ally protection abilities.
Once promoted to High Lord, Alain gains a mount that transforms him from infantry to cavalry, dramatically increasing his overworld mobility and combat effectiveness.
The Lord/High Lord is one of the most well-rounded and important classes in the entire game.
Strengths
The Lord is remarkably versatile. Alain can fight effectively from either the front or back row, deal solid damage, heal himself while attacking, and protect allies. Few classes can do all of these things at once.
Lean Edge, the Lord’s signature active skill, restores HP when it defeats an enemy. This self-sustain means Alain can keep fighting without dedicated healer support in many situations.
The Lord has no critical weaknesses, no severe vulnerability to any damage type. He’s not the best at anything, but he’s good at everything, making him adaptable to any situation.
After promotion to High Lord, Alain gains cavalry status. This is a massive upgrade, cavalry mobility on the overworld means your main character can cover ground much faster, and the anti-infantry bonus damage from cavalry attacks adds offensive power.
The leader effect, Morale Boost, grants extra Valor Points when defeating enemies, accelerating access to powerful valor skills across your army.
Weaknesses
As a jack-of-all-trades, the Lord doesn’t excel in any single area. Dedicated tanks are tankier, dedicated DPS deals more damage, and dedicated healers heal better.
After promotion, the High Lord gains a minor cavalry weakness, anti-cavalry attacks deal bonus damage, which the infantry Lord didn’t have to worry about.
The class is limited to Alain alone, so you can’t build multiple units around it.
Key Skills and How to Use Them
Lean Edge is the signature active, attacks an enemy and heals Alain if it scores a kill. Set tactics to target enemies with the lowest HP to maximize kill potential and healing.
Sacred Sword (level 10) is a stronger attack that deals magick damage, bypassing physickal defense. Excellent against armored targets.
Royal Order (High Lord only) boosts ally initiative at the start of battle, helping your entire unit act faster.
Cover is a passive that intercepts attacks aimed at allies, providing protection.
Valor Boost generates extra Valor Points, stacking with the Morale Boost leader effect.
Promotion to High Lord
This is the highest-priority promotion in the game.
The cavalry mount changes Alain’s overworld movement speed dramatically, which matters because you’ll be controlling Alain’s unit constantly.
Royal Order is also an excellent team buff. Promote Alain the moment you can afford the Honors.
Best Team Compositions and Tactics
Alain + Cleric provides healing support to supplement Lean Edge’s self-sustain. A very safe pairing.
Alain + Soldier/Sergeant gives you column attacks, cavalry counter, and crit buffs from Keen Call on Alain’s attacks.
Alain + Scarlett (Priestess) is a natural story pairing that provides healing and anti-armor support.
Alain works in either row. Set Lean Edge to target low-HP enemies and Sacred Sword against armored targets.
Characters Who Use This Class
Alain is the only Lord/High Lord in the game. He’s the protagonist and your most important unit.
Final Thoughts
The Lord/High Lord is the anchor of your army.
Alain’s versatility means he fits into any unit composition, and the High Lord’s cavalry mobility makes him the fastest way to get your main force across the map.
Promote him first, build a solid unit around him, and he’ll carry you through the entire story.
