Frame generation is one of the biggest “wait, that feels like cheating” graphics features to hit PC gaming in years. Flip a switch and your framerate can jump dramatically (sometimes doubling, sometimes more) without your GPU doing twice the traditional rendering work.

But here’s the catch: frame generation doesn’t create real frames from your game engine. It creates predicted frames.

That can make motion look smoother, but it also comes with tradeoffs like artifacts, occasional weirdness around UI elements, and latency concerns.

What is frame generation?

Frame generation is a rendering technique that inserts synthetic frames between traditionally rendered frames to increase the number of frames your monitor receives each second.
