Bryce is a stalwart Hoplite who specializes in shielding allies and locking down lanes with massive Guard Rate and row-wide protection. He won’t top damage charts, but he’s one of the most reliable answers to ranged chip and brute-force melee pushes thanks to heavy and row cover tools, team Phys. DEF buffs, and greatshielding.

How to Recruit Bryce

Recruit Nina in Cornia first. Then clear the Bastorias liberation quest “The Battle for Solvaquad.” If Nina is already in your army when you finish that map, Bryce automatically joins the Liberation.

Class Overview: Hoplite (Armored / Infantry)

Hoplites boast excellent Physical Defense and multiple “cover” skills to soak attacks for teammates. Bryce’s Leader Effect: Resist Ranged Assist reduces chip from enemy assists, making his squad harder to wear down. He does not promote (stays Hoplite), so his power comes from skills, gear, and tactics rather than a later class spike. Growth: Defensive / Hardy.

Stats and Growth

Bryce’s spread screams frontline protector—huge guard uptime, strong physical bulk, weak magic durability, and slow turn order.

  • AP / PP: 2 / 2 – enough flexibility to mix actives with cover passives.
  • HP: B – solid base to tank through focus fire.
  • Physical ATK / DEF: C / S – modest damage, top-tier physical durability.
  • Mag ATK / DEF: E / F – magic is his weakness; bring support vs. casters.
  • Accuracy / Evasion: D / F – he’s here to block, not dodge.
  • Crit / Guard Rate: F / S – almost never crits; guards constantly.
  • Initiative: F – acts late; plan around it (or buff turn order).
  • Leader Effect: Resist Ranged Assist – reduces incoming assist chip to his squad.
  • Growth Type: Defensive / Hardy – leans into bulk and staying power.

Skills and Abilities

Actives

  • Sting (1 AP): Single-target poke; +50 potency if Bryce is <50% HP. Use as a low-cost finisher when you’re already committed to covering.
  • Row Protection (1 AP, Lv25): +50% Phys. DEF to allies in Bryce’s row, excellent surge protection before enemy cleaves.
  • Greatshield (1 AP, Lv30): +50% Phys. DEF to self and +2 PP, perfect to refuel cover passives and harden Bryce before a big exchange.

Passives

  • Heavy Cover (PP): Cover a single ally with a heavy guard (soak their hit). Core saving throw for your carry.
  • Guardian (PP, Lv15): +20% Phys. ATK and +20% Guard Rate (stacks) after being attacked, helps Bryce grind out long fights.
  • Row Cover (PP, Lv20): Cover an entire row with a medium guard, huge into row cleaves and assists.

Valor (VP)

  • Fortress II: Negate stage damage for allied units in range for a short duration, great for safe pushes through hazards.

Best Equipment and Accessories

Weapon: Any sword that adds survivability or consistency (flat Phys ATK, guard/defense modifiers). Damage is secondary.

Shield: Prioritize high Guard Rate/Phys. DEF options to supercharge his role.

Armor: Physically biased sets first; swap to Mag-DEF pieces on caster-heavy maps to shore up his weak spot.

Accessories:

  • Lapis Pendant (+1 PP): Keeps Heavy/Row Cover running across multiple engagements.
  • Carnelian Pendant (+1 AP): Lets you stack Greatshield with Row Protection or slip in a timely Sting.
  • Mag-resist trinket (flex): Mitigates his F Mag DEF when mages are prevalent.

(Use the best-tier versions you’ve unlocked; names vary with progress.)

Ideal Unit Placement & Team Synergy

Place Bryce front row or mid-front, directly shielding your carries. Great partners include:

Backline DPS (Rolf, Yunifi, mages): they thrive behind Row/Heavy Cover and Ranged Assist mitigation.

Bruisers / DEF breakers (Lex, Aubin): while Bryce absorbs hits, they punish softened targets.

Healers/Cleansers (Scarlett, Sharon): counteract magic focus and keep Bryce healthy enough to maintain cover uptime.

Tips and Strategy

Tactic template (priority order):

  1. Row Cover (PP) → Condition: “Row is targeted / Enemy has row attacks” (blanket protection vs. cleaves & assists).
  2. Heavy Cover (PP) → Condition: “Ally HP ≤ 50% / Ally is priority carry” (single-target lifesaver).
  3. Greatshield (1 AP) → Condition: “Before enemy engage / Self HP ≤ 70%” (bulk up and regenerate PP).
  4. Row Protection (1 AP) → Condition: “Enemy cleaver about to act” (+50% Phys. DEF to Bryce’s row).
  5. Sting (1 AP) → Condition: “Target HP low / Self HP <50%” (cheap finisher with bonus potency).
  6. Guardian (PP) → leave enabled (free ATK + Guard stacks as he gets hit).

Play notes

  • Lead into archers/cleavers. His kit blunts assists and row damage, send his squad where protection matters most.
  • AP→PP loop. Use Greatshield proactively to both harden Bryce and refuel PP for continuous cover uptime.
  • Respect mages. Rotate in Mag-DEF gear or healer support on caster-heavy maps; that’s his Achilles heel.

Final Thoughts

If your team needs a true tank, Bryce delivers: constant cover, towering Guard Rate, and team-wide Phys. DEF tools that make messy fights safe and predictable. Build him for durability and PP economy, point him at enemy lanes with heavy assists or cleaves, and your carries will have all the room they need to win.
