The Thief is Unicorn Overlord’s evasion specialist, a fast, slippery infiltrator who dodges attacks, steals enemy PP, and disrupts formations.
Once promoted to Rogue, the class gains even more tools for sabotage and survivability.
If you want a unit that makes enemies whiff and steals their resources while doing it, the Thief/Rogue is endlessly fun.
Strengths
Thieves have the highest evasion in the game.
Most physickal attacks simply miss them, making them incredibly hard to kill against enemies who lack truestrike.
Their Evade passive guarantees a dodge on the first attack, giving them a free pass on the opening hit of every battle.
PP stealing is the Thief’s most disruptive tool.
Passive Steal drains enemy PP, shutting down their passive skills entirely.
Against enemies that rely heavily on passives (like Hoplites using Heavy Cover or Fighters using Arrow Cover) removing their PP cripples their entire strategy.
The valor skill Plunder steals gold from enemy units on the overworld, providing extra income. It’s a nice bonus on top of the class’s combat utility.
Their leader effect, Quick Rest, reduces resting time between engagements.
Weaknesses
Thieves are extremely vulnerable to truestrike attacks.
Hunters and Swordfighters guarantee hits, completely negating the Thief’s evasion advantage. A single Hunter can shut down a Thief entirely.
HP and defense are both very low. If an attack does land, the Thief takes massive damage.
They have zero durability outside of evasion.
Thieves also deal low damage. They’re disruptors, not damage dealers.
Key Skills and How to Use Them
Passive Steal is the starting active, it attacks an enemy and steals their PP. Use this against enemies with powerful passives to shut them down.
Toxic Throw (level 10) is a ranged attack that inflicts poison. Useful for back-row damage.
Shadowbite (level 20, Rogue only) is a high-potency attack that deals extra damage to debuffed enemies.
Active Steal (level 30, Rogue only) steals enemy AP, which is even more devastating than PP steal, it removes their ability to attack.
Evade guarantees dodging the first attack, providing a free safety net every battle.
Sneaking Edge (level 25, Rogue only) grants a powerful follow-up attack from stealth, adding genuine damage.
Promotion to Rogue
Promotion unlocks Shadowbite, Active Steal, and Sneaking Edge.
Active Steal is the big prize, stealing AP is incredibly powerful. Promote at mid-priority.
Best Team Compositions and Tactics
Thief + Shaman/Druid creates maximum disruption. The Shaman debuffs while the Thief steals PP, leaving enemies with no stats and no resources.
Thief + Hoplite uses the Hoplite to handle threats the Thief can’t evade (truestrike users) while the Thief disrupts enemy passives.
Position Thieves in the front row against melee-heavy enemy compositions where evasion works best. Move them to the back row against Hunters.
Characters Who Use This Class
Travis is your first Thief, joining at the start alongside Alain. He’s available all game with solid evasion growth.
Gammel is a missable Thief/Rogue tied to an execution choice, spare him to recruit later.
Final Thoughts
The Thief/Rogue is the ultimate disruptor.
Evasion makes them nearly untouchable against the right enemies, and PP/AP stealing cripples enemy strategies.
They won’t carry your team with damage, but they’ll make sure the enemy can’t fight back effectively.
Just keep them far away from Hunters.
