Mandrin is a Hunter → Sniper archer who brings top-tier Accuracy, True-Strike on demand, and reliable anti-flier burst. With row/dual shots for flexible coverage and follow-ups/counters to keep pressure on, he’s an all-purpose ranged finisher who fits into almost any squad.

How to Recruit Mandrin

Choice dependency (early Cornia): When you first meet Mandrin in “The Winged Knight,” you must spare him. If you execute him here, he’s missable in that playthrough.

Also spare Gammel: To see the reunion path, it’s safest to spare Gammel earlier; community confirmations note both being freed leads to their return.

Where he joins: Later in Elheim, start and clear “A Shifting Tide.” After victory, Celeste, Gammel, and Mandrin all join and you get several rewards.

Class Overview: Hunter → Sniper (Archer / Infantry)

Identity: High-accuracy ranged DPS with strong tools vs fliers and evasive targets (Thieves, Gryphons).

Leader Effect: Ranged Assist (adds ranged assists for allied units).

Promotion: Sniper enhances anti-flier damage and keeps his True-Strike access (Eagle Eye) central to the kit.

Stats and Growth

Mandrin’s statline is made for reliable finishing, he hits what he aims at.

  • AP / PP: 2 / 2 – generous economy for a ranged damage dealer.
  • HP: C – fine for back row; don’t frontline him without guard.
  • Physical ATK / DEF: B / E – good damage; keep him protected.
  • Mag ATK / DEF: D / A – not a caster; holds up versus magic poke.
  • Accuracy / Evasion: S / B – hallmark S Accuracy means fewer whiffs on dodgy targets.
  • Crit / Guard Rate: A / E – crits help confirm KOs; avoid drawing hits.
  • Initiative: C – mid turn order; script allies to set up his finishes.
  • Growth Type: Defensive / Offensive (balanced scaling for a back-row carry).

Skills and Abilities

Valor (Field)

  • Arrow Rain II: AoE damage in range (extra vs flying leaders); great for opening pushes or cleanup.

Actives

  • Single Shot (1 AP): Reliable single-target finisher; set to Lowest HP to secure kills.
  • Dual Shot (1 AP, Lv10): Hits two enemies, excellent efficiency in multi-target lanes.
  • Row Shot (2 AP, Lv20): Row-wide damage; use on the row with most combatants for huge tempo.

Passives

  • Eagle Eye (PP): Makes next attack a True-Strike, answers high Evasion and fliers cleanly.
  • Pursuit (PP, Lv15): Follow-up shot after an ally attack, steady extra chip every clash.
  • Aerial Snipe (PP, Lv25): Counter a single enemy; +100 potency vs fliers, punishes airborne threats.

Best Equipment and Accessories

Bow:

  • Flame Bow (adds Flame Shot) pairs with comps that benefit from afflictions/debuffs for damage checks.
  • Any Phys ATK + Accuracy bow is solid if you just want consistent KOs.

Armor: Keep him back-row light; if he’s getting focused, swap in mixed bulk pieces.

Accessories:

  • Mercenary’s Eyepatch: +Crit% to push kill thresholds.
  • Lapis Pendant: +1 PP keeps Eagle Eye / Pursuit up across battles.
  • Carnelian Pendant: +1 AP enables Row Shot → Dual/Single Shot chains in one engagement.

Ideal Unit Placement & Team Synergy

Back row anchor behind a durable frontline. Use him to delete fliers, clip evasive units, and finish enemies prepped by your bruisers.

Synergizes with:

Debuffers/DEF-down (Aubin, shamans) to push his low-AP shots into KO range.

Guard-seal / control (Warriors, Featherbow lines) so his Row/Dual shots stick.

Anti-flier screens: even without setup, Eagle Eye + Aerial Snipe makes him a no-fly zone.

Tips and Strategy

Tactic suggestions (priority order):

  1. Row Shot (2 AP) → Condition: “Row with Most Combatants” (maximize splash, then clean up).
  2. Dual Shot (1 AP) → Condition: “≥2 Enemies” (best blend of AP efficiency and coverage).
  3. Single Shot (1 AP) → Condition: “Lowest HP” (confirm the KO to swing tempo).
  4. Eagle Eye (PP) → Condition: “Flying Enemies Present” (or Highest Evasion as a backup) for guaranteed hits.
  5. Pursuit (PP) → No condition (free follow-ups keep damage flowing).
  6. Aerial Snipe (PP) → Condition: “Flying Enemies Present” (turns their engages into punish).
  7. Valor – Arrow Rain II → Field use: Open pushes, soften clustered squads, or finish retreats.

Play notes

Plan around True-Strike. Use Eagle Eye before key shots to bypass dodgy frontlines (Thieves/Gryphons).

Chain after Row Shot. With a Carnelian Pendant, Row Shot → Dual/Single often wipes a lane outright.

Recruitment caution. If you want Mandrin later, spare him (and spare Gammel) so “A Shifting Tide” delivers all three recruits in Elheim.

Final Thoughts

Mandrin is a plug-and-play ranged carry: accurate, flexible, and terrifying for fliers. Build for crit/accuracy, keep Eagle Eye/Pursuit online, and script Row/Dual/Single priorities to match board states. Do that and he’ll quietly (and consistently) win lanes for your army.
