Colm is a sturdy Fighter who specializes in protecting allies from ranged pressure and locking targets down with stuns. He’s an armored infantry frontliner with excellent Guard Rate and Mag DEF S, built to soak arrows, screen fragile backliners, and create openings with Shield Bash.

How to Recruit Colm

Recruit Melisandre during the Cornia quest “The Blade of House Meillet.” If Melisandre joins, Colm joins with her after the battle (be sure Alain is deployed in that stage). If you execute Melisandre, Colm will not be recruited.

Class Overview: Fighter → Vanguard (Armor / Infantry)

Role: Defensive frontliner that blunts ranged assists and sets up stuns.

Leader Effect: Resist Ranged Assist (his unit takes reduced damage from ranged assists).

Promotion: Vanguard gains stronger self-buffing offense (Defender) and improved control while keeping his anti-ranged utility.

Stats and Growth

  • AP / PP: 1 / 1 – simple, PP-lean build early
  • HP: C – average durability for armor infantry
  • Physical ATK: C – serviceable damage
  • Physical DEF: B – solid into melee trades
  • Mag ATK / Mag DEF: D / S – very resilient vs casters
  • Accuracy: C – reliable enough
  • Evasion: E – don’t rely on dodging
  • Crit Rate: D – not a crit unit
  • Guard Rate: S – frequent blocks are his backbone
  • Initiative: C – middling turn order
  • Growth Type: Precise / All-Rounder – stable scaling without extremes.

Skills and Abilities

Fighter (base)

  • Warding Slash (1 AP): Hit and raise own Phys. DEF; good opener when outnumbered.
  • Shield Bash (1 AP): Reliable Stun; set it to pick off lowest-HP targets so allies finish safely.
  • Arrow Cover (1 PP): Protects back row allies from incoming ranged attacks, great vs archers/fliers pinging your squishies.
  • Quick Guard (1 PP): Emergency self-protection; use at low HP to avoid getting dropped.

Vanguard (promotion highlights)

  • Defender (2 AP): Strike with +50% Phys. DEF; +1 PP on hit, turns him into a brick that fuels his own kit.
  • Provoke (1 PP): Big Guard Rate boost and draw fire; avoid when enemy squads are heavy casters.

Best Equipment and Accessories

Sword: Sanguine Blade (grants sustain via Sanguine Attack) helps him hold the line longer.

Shield: Templar’s Shield (guard% + boosts Sanguine sustain) or Azure Crest Shield (+1 PP) post-promotion.

Accessories:

  • Lapis Pendant (+1 PP): More Arrow Cover/Quick Guard uptime.
  • Carnelian Pendant (+1 AP): Lets you layer Warding Slash/Shield Bash more freely or front-load Defender chains after promotion.

Ideal Unit Placement & Team Synergy

Front row or mid-front with fragile backliners directly behind him so Arrow Cover protects them. Excellent partners include:

  • Backline carries (Rolf, Yunifi, sorcerers) who benefit from ranged shielding.
  • DEF-breakers (Aubin, knights) to amplify your team’s damage while Colm controls threats.
  • Healers (Sharon, Scarlett) to keep him healthy so he can keep stunning and covering.

Tips and Strategy

Tactic template (Fighter, priority):

  1. Warding Slash → Condition: “▲ 2+ enemies” (bulk up early).
  2. Shield Bash → Condition: “Lowest HP” (secure stuns for cleanup).
  3. Arrow Cover → Condition: “Prioritize Back Row” (protect squishies).
  4. Quick Guard → Condition: “Self HP ≤ 50%”.

Tactic template (Vanguard, priority):

  1. Defender → Condition: “Lowest HP enemy” (tank up, earn PP).
  2. Warding Slash → follow-up bulk.
  3. Shield Bash → stun windows.
  4. Arrow Cover → always on vs archers.
  5. Provoke → Condition: “No casters present.”

Play notes

Lead into archer stacks so Arrow Cover earns its keep.

Use Shield Bash to interrupt enemy actives or finish weakened threats.

After promotion, Defender first to stabilize and generate PP for continuous cover.

Final Thoughts

Colm isn’t flashy, but he’s reliability incarnate: ranged mitigation, steady control, and front-line staying power, especially after promotion. Put him in front of your best glass cannons and watch your squads feel safer, cleaner, and more consistent on archer-heavy maps.
