Gammel is a nimble Rogue, a dodge-tank scout who steals AP/PP, spreads disabling debuffs, and ruins enemy tempo.
He shines by never getting hit (Evade, S-rank Evasion) and by crippling whole rows with Shadowbite (Blind, −20 Initiative, −20 Evasion). Use him to open fights, steal resources, and hand free kills to your damage dealers.
How to Recruit Gammel
You must spare Gammel during the early Cornia choice. Later, in Elheim’s story mission “A Shifting Tide,” if he was spared he appears with Celeste and Mandrin, clear the map and all three join. If you executed/handed him over earlier, he can’t be recruited.
Class Overview: Rogue (Scout / Infantry)
Rogues are evasive skirmishers that steal AP/PP, inflict status, and dodge key hits.
Gammel’s Leader Effect: Quick Rest reduces wait time while resting on the overworld, letting his unit re-enter action sooner.
Growth type: Go-Getter (speed/initiative-leaning).
He excels at tempo control and enabling allies rather than raw damage.
Stats and Growth
- AP / PP: 2 / 2 – flexible turns for openers + follow-ups
- HP: E – keep him screened; he lives by dodging
- Physical ATK / DEF: D / F – not a bruiser, avoid trading
- Mag ATK / DEF: D / C – average caster interaction; fine vs light spells
- Accuracy: A – lands debuffs reliably
- Evasion: S – cornerstone of his survivability
- Crit Rate / Guard Rate: S / F – crits happen; don’t rely on blocks
- Initiative: S – acts early to set tempo
- Leader Effect: Quick Rest
- Growth Type: Go-Getter
Skills and Abilities
Actives
- Steal (PP) – Single-target hit that steals all enemy PP (fails if first hit is Guarded). Shut off enemy passives/skills before they act.
- Toxic Throw (Lv10) – Ranged poke that Poisons; good chip and attrition.
- Shadowbite (Lv20, 2 AP) – Row attack that inflicts Blind and −20 Initiative / −20 Evasion. Gammel’s signature opener, kneecaps evasive lines and delays turns.
- Active Steal (Lv30, 2 AP) – Single-target strike that steals all enemy AP (fails if first hit is Guarded). Use to completely stall a carry.
Passives
- Evade (1 PP) – Avoid one hit before being attacked; vital vs stray arrows or first swings.
- Sneaking Edge (Lv25, 1 PP) – First-strike opener that applies Guard Seal + Passive Seal to a target, perfect to set up your team’s focus.
Valor (VP)
- Plunder II — Steal gold from all enemies in range (map utility; not combat power).
Best Equipment and Accessories
Daggers: Prioritize flat ATK or utility affixes (anything that helps consistency). Accuracy is already high; status/tempo tools > crit gimmicks.
Armor: Light pieces that won’t tank Initiative.
Accessories:
- Carnelian Pendant (+1 AP): Enables Shadowbite plus a follow-up (e.g., Toxic Throw) in one engagement.
- Lapis Pendant (+1 PP): Keeps Evade and Sneaking Edge online across multiple skirmishes.
- Anti-status/anti-ranged trinket (flex) if a map hard-counters dodge tanks.
(Use the highest-tier versions you’ve unlocked.)
Ideal Unit Placement & Team Synergy
Back or mid-row on a flank where he can open safely, then rotate. He pairs best with:
- Frontline carries (Lex, Clive, Bruno): they capitalize on Shadowbite’s −Evasion and −Initiative.
- DEF breakers (Aubin, Great Knights): soften targets so even Gammel’s low ATK chips matter and your DPS one-tap.
- Control casters/archers (Rosalinde, Eltolinde, Lhinalagos): stack Freeze/True-Strike on enemies Gammel has blinded or sealed.
- Vikings/War Horn users: combo with Steal to drain both AP and PP from priority threats.
Tips and Strategy
Tactic template (priority order):
- Sneaking Edge (PP) → Start of battle (apply Guard Seal + Passive Seal to the anchor; stops Guard and many passives).
- Shadowbite (2 AP) → Row with ≥2 enemies (Blind + −20 Init/Eva to tilt the entire exchange).
- Steal (PP) → Target: highest PP user / support (deny enemy passives before they fire).
- Active Steal (2 AP) → Target: main enemy carry (remove their turn outright).
- Evade (PP) → Always on (safety vs opening snipes).
Play notes
Open on the anchor. Sneaking Edge → Shadowbite cripples the enemy’s key position so your team cleans up.
Mind Guard checks. Steal/Active Steal fail if the first hit is Guarded, apply Guard Seal first (Sneaking Edge) or target non-guarders.
Row control > damage. Treat Gammel as a tempo tool; his value is denying turns/resources so allies win the DPS race.
Final Thoughts
Built and piloted as a control specialist, Gammel is incredible: he opens fights, steals what matters, and makes enemy squads miss, act later, and hit less accurately. Keep his PP economy healthy, pick your targets wisely, and he’ll make your heavy hitters feel unstoppable.
